Dear Colleagues,
With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, we are privileged to invite you to the 42 nd IAFM
Annual National Conference (ANC), FORENSIC MEDICON 2021 scheduled to be held at S.C.B
Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, Odisha, on 23 rd and 24 th January 2021. Odisha is well
known for its temples, unpolluted beaches, Buddhist relics, national parks and wildlife, tribal
culture, traditional music, dance, handicrafts and handlooms. The twin cities of Cuttack and
Bhubaneswar are the heart of the state. There are several organisations like the Odisha Judicial
Academy(OJA), Biju Pattnaik State Police Academy(BPSPA), State Forensic Science
Laboratory(SFSL), Regional Medical Research Centre(RMRC) and Institute of Life Sciences(ILS) in
the twin city to facilitate the scientific investigations and the administration of justice.
The theme of our conference “Issues, Challenges and way forward in Forensic
Medicine” shall stimulate the delegates to discuss the new areas as well as the limitations of
forensic investigation. Definitely the younger generation shall be encouraged to broaden the
horizon of forensic medicine with a multidisciplinary holistic approach.
The enthusiastic preparation for the event however faced a seemingly insurmountable
roadblock, when COVID 19 pandemic struck, and restrictions on movement and gatherings
were obvious to contain the spread of the disease. They say, “Necessity is the mother of
invention”. The classic adage has been a source of constant inspiration for the organising team
to overcome the challenge in a structured effort. The conference is hence planned to be
conducted in the virtual platform, where eminent speakers from across the country and the
world will deliberate on various topics, which not only will enrich our understanding, but also
provide a unique opportunity to exchange our ideas and thoughts on issues selected for
discussion. The postgraduates will be provided with a scope to listen to authorities on subjects
and interact with experts on fields of their interest from around the globe.
The organizers will make all possible effort to bring to use the state of art
communication technology and offer a memorable academic festival, with an amazing virtual
networking opportunity. Under this COVID adversity, we see new hope and ocean of
possibilities, with a desire to set standards. We heartily welcome you all to “FORENSIC
MEDICON 2021”.

It is a matter of great honour for me as I take this opportunity to announce before you
all about the forth coming Annual Conference of IAFM, FORENSIC MEDICON 2021. This will be
organised by the Department of FM&T of this Premier and Historic Institution on 23rd-24th
January 2021 with Post Graduate CME on 22 nd Jan, in a hybrid virtual format. I am sure that
under the able leadership of Professor Dr. Geeta Sahu, Chairman, Organising Committee, this
Conference will bring some great academics, discussions and networking.
The venue city of Cuttack is a 1000 yr old urban settlement with rich maritime history
and heritage. This medical establishment is a pre-independence one. It’s my immense pleasure
to know that the National Conference of IAFM has come to us for the 1 st time. I sincerely thank
the national executives of IAFM for this unique opportunity. In this period of Pandemic, we will
make every effort to ensure, the delegates have a memorable academic experience with a
wider networking and deliberations. I warmly welcome all the delegates and wish grand success
of “FORENSIC MEDICON 2021”.
